422 TUTOR: Lauren Holloway
In this beginner machine sewing course you will learn and develop some basic skills to build your confidence using a sewing machine. Students will make a drawstring bag, applique cushion, tote bag and pencil case. Includes threading and setting up a machine, different stitches, sewing a zipper, applique techniques and making and joining pieces of a simple pattern.
Students will spend most of the session learning the different parts of the machine along with threading and setting it up. They'll practice sewing before they start on their first project - a simple drawstring bag.
Students will continue with their drawstring bag project before moving on to making an envelope cushion using a pattern. They can also use applique techniques to decorate their cushion.
Students will make a simple tote bag with handles.
Students will learn how to make a lined and zipped pencil case.
Choose any of the projects to make again or continue with a project they didn't quite finish in the previous days.

Designer, Maker and sewing teacher Lauren Holloway has been running her own slow-fashion lifestyle brand since 2013. She has extensive knowledge and experience in designing patterns and sewing anything from coin purses to backpacks. Lauren runs her own beginner and improver sewing workshops for adults and children in and around Bristol along with teaching the in-house beginner sewing courses at Bristol's Creative Space. Lauren also has her own range of craft making kits, giving budding sewers the opportunity to learn beginner sewing technique at home with the guidance of Lauren's online tutorials.
