This is a long established and highly
successful course offered each year throughout the four weeks of Summer School.
Provision is made for Young People at all levels of ability within the 9 - 17
age range.
The core aim of the EFL courses is to develop
the language skills of learners through communicative activities.
At the beginning of the week, Young People
will be asked to complete a short diagnostic test to put them into appropriate
level group. Adults will be assessed orally via an interview.
Class sizes are small, allowing for teaching
to the needs of individuals. Students who wish to attend one, two, three or
four weeks of Summer School will find the lessons completely varied, using a
wide selection of teaching materials and methods.
Learners develop skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking through communicative activities and are encouraged to
reproduce the language fluently and accurately. Students practise their skills
in pairs, teams and groups by discussion, presentation, project work,
challenges and games within the classroom. There will also be opportunities to
use English outside the classroom in real situations. Vocabulary input reflects
the contemporary interests of each age group of students, such as social media,
fashion, celebrities, sport and world events.
Classrooms in the Language Centre at Marlborough
College Summer School are equipped with the latest technology to facilitate the
language learning programme. There are
also traditional textbooks, dictionaries and graded readers for student use.
Our mission on the EFL courses at MCSS is to
improve written and spoken skills through fun, communicative classes given by
our highly experienced team of specialist English Language teachers.
