In December 2017, we initiated what we hope is becoming a Summer School tradition when we asked our longest serving art tutor, Patricia Saville to design a Christmas Card to send to all our customers and tutors. This year, we invited Jonathan Newey who has been tutoring at Summer School since 2004 to lend us his artistic skills.
Jonathan is an award-winning artist with over 25 years of experience in many different types of mediums and subjects, including coloured pencil, watercolour and acrylic. Born in Reading, England, he comes from a long line of artists in his family and specialises in drawings and paintings inspired by nature.
Well known in the artist community as one of the top coloured pencil wildlife artists in the country, Jonathan is a founder member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society. A number of Jonathan's paintings feature in collections both at home and abroad and he has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the West of England Academy, RBSA in Birmingham and The Affordable Art Fair. He is a member of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and has been selected for their 'Wildlife Artist of the Year' exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London for 7 years.
Jonathan's acrylic painting for this year's Christmas card is entitled 'Winter on the Wiltshire Downs' and is inspired by the abundant wildlife and beautiful rolling countryside surrounding Marlborough.
In 2020, Jonathan will be running the following courses at Marlborough College Summer School:
Course 5 | An Introduction to Watercolour | Week 2 - Full Day
Course 37, 38 | NEW Drawing Animals with Graphite Pencil | Weeks 1 or 3 - Full Day
