The course of true love never did run smooth, unless it is at Marlborough College Summer School! We take a great deal of time and care ensuring that our course programme offers your perfect match. Whether you are looking for an inspired way to treat someone special or even yourself then check out our Valentine's course edit.
1. Portraits and Figures in Watercolour with Kevin Scully
Capturing your loved one on canvas is a lovely way to show how much you appreciate them. As well as creating traditional portrait paintings, this course provides an alternative to the well-trodden path of creating a recognisable likeness and encourages you to consider people as more of a subject for artistic interpretation.
2. Millinery Magic with Ann Gill
We all love a wedding! Why not use your next one as an excuse to learn how to create your own hat to wear. This will be a fun course giving you a taste of millinery and the blocking technique required to create your very own headpiece using sinamay, crin, feathers and beads.
3. Hatches, Matches and Despatches with Perry Staker
Courtships and weddings are also a key theme of this course, which explores the different superstitions, customs and traditions surrounding significant British celebrations and ceremonies. You will consider the food and meals eaten, the clothing worn and the history of the wedding cake and the wedding bouquet.
4. Bead Embroidery Jewellery with Rachel Smith
Don't forget your Galentine's! A handcrafted necklace makes a unique and thoughtful gift for any occasion. During this course, jewellery maker and designer Rachel Smith will take you through the steps to design and make an eye-catching gemstone and bead embroidery pendant.
5. Bohemian Paris and the Birth of Modern Art with Paul Chapman
The French capital is famously known as the City of Love. However, if you want to avoid all the love-struck couples taking boat trips down the Seine or queuing for the Eiffel Tower, we have the ideal alternative. Instead, discover Paris as the capital of the creative avant-garde and where Fauvism, Cubism, Dadaism and Surrealism came to being in the studios, cafés, bars and streets of Montmartre and Montparnasse.
6. Beginners Ballroom Dancing with Mike Freke
Ballroom Dancing is a perfect pastime to learn and enjoy with your significant other. However, while couples are especially welcome, it is not essential to bring a partner along to Summer School as your dance tutor Mike Freke has a team of helpers to partner individuals. During the week, you will master the basics of Waltz, Quickstep, Tango and Social Foxtrot.
Still can't decide on the best way to their heart? We also offer Summer School Gift Vouchers so they can have the fun of choosing their own course.
