Watercolour is
the ideal medium for capturing the effects of light in a scene, which is one of
the essential elements needed to establish mood and atmosphere. During the
week, you will examine the ways in which you can convey the quality of light in
a variety of subject matters, including landscapes, seascapes, still life and
interiors. There will be plenty of demonstrations and sympathetic one-to-one
tuition to help you create some exciting, light-filled paintings. This course
is for all levels of experience. All art and reference materials will be
supplied.
Our
week will concentrate on a more contemporary approach to watercolour painting,
but this will be underpinned with the basic rules that govern their uses and
capabilities. The basic principles of drawing, composition, perspective and
colour harmony will be covered in preparation for producing some exciting and
light-filled pictures.
We
will endeavour through demonstration and individual tuition to use watercolour
in a loose and more painterly way, creating lively, vibrant and colourful
effects. Watercolours are an ideal
medium for producing atmospheric and evocative paintings, and during the week
these shall be explored to the full.
On
Friday afternoon there will be a light-hearted display and discussion of the
work produced during the week. All
materials and equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring along
any interesting images that you would like to use as reference.
You
may also wish to bring some of the following:
- Sketchbook
or notebook
- Kitchen
towel and tissues
- Any
favourite watercolour materials that you may have, as these can be used in
conjunction with those provided
- You
might like to bring along your own tabletop easel.
