Here is a chance
for you to use watercolours in a loose, dynamic and expressive way. You will be
encouraged to abandon many of the pre-conceived notions regarding the medium's
limitations and will be given the opportunity to create paintings that are
colourful, vibrant and on the wilder side of traditional watercolours. After
all, rules are there to be broken! This course is suitable for all levels of
experience in watercolours, including beginners. All art and reference
materials will be provided.
This
course is all about investigating the possibilities of using watercolour in an
exciting and unconventional way, and as happens with most experimentation (and
especially with watercolour), you will be likely to experience both success and
failure. But undoubtedly, the successes will greatly outnumber the failures!
Your
successful pictures will be displayed at the end of the week Friday afternoon
exhibition.
All
materials will be provided, but please bring along any other images that you
would like to work from. If you have any favourite brushes or other painting
equipment, you might like to bring these with you also.
There
will be a limited number of tabletop easels available, so if you like to work
from one these please bring it along if you have one.

About Kevin
Kevin Scully trained at Wimbledon School of
Art. He has worked in the theatre and television as a scenic artist, and as an
illustrator in advertising and publishing. He is a winner of the Winsor &
Newton Painting Prize and the Clairefontaine Art Award at the annual Patchings
Art Festival. He is the author of several books on painting, and is a regular
