A
course designed for regular walkers to experience our beautiful Pewsey Vale by
Nordic Walking. If you have nordic walked before we will refresh and work on
your techniques and if you are new to nordic walking we will get you going with
the poles in the first session. We will use the poles to go faster and further
& experience some great walks in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside going
further than we could without poles in the afternoon session.
Each
day we will walk around 5-7 miles and discover some great places along the new
Pewsey Vale Circular Trail. We cannot
cover the whole 77 mile trail but we can definitely show you highlights which
include many beauty spots from Ham in the east to Bishops Cannings in the West.
We will walk along the Wansdyke, the Kennet & Avon canal and even some
parts of Salisbury plain.

We
will also provide tips to hone your Nordic Walking techniques to ensure you get
the most out of your walks. This will include faster, more efficient walking
and hill techniques and will always include a full warm up and cool down and
stretch at the end of the session.
Pre-requisites
for the course
You
will either be an experienced nordic walker or someone who does a fair amount
of country walking and can learn the technique quickly. We will be covering
around 7 miles in 2.5 hours by the end of the week.
Poles
will be provided by the instructor suitable to your body shape, height &
ability. If you have your own poles you are welcome to bring them with you.
Please
make sure you have suitable clothing and footwear for walking in the open
countryside. Walking shoes or sturdy trainers (please avoid very stiff leather
walking boots as you are unable to fully flex your foot and learn the more
advanced techniques), trousers or shorts and several layers to enable you to
add or take away depending on the weather conditions. Walkers should also bring
a small backpack with water, hat, spare clothing/waterproofs/socks, sunscreen
and insect repellent and a small snack. It is much better to carry spare
clothing in your backpack that tie round your waist which can interfere with
the poles.
If you
need any medication (such as inhalers) please make sure you carry this with
you. You will be expected to complete a health questionnaire to ensure you are
suitable to walk.
