This
course is for anyone fearful or baffled by social media and the fast pace of
the digital world. It is designed to dispel myths and anxieties and will offer
easy steps into unfamiliar waters. Whether you want to engage with friends or
family overseas, write a blog, develop a business idea or campaign to make the
world a better place, understanding how social media works can change your
life. The tutor will help you every step of the way to move forward with
confidence.
Over the course of the week we will look at what the purpose of social
media is, how you can engage with others, and the benefits it might bring.
This course is designed to make social media understandable and
accessible to all. All you will need to practice at home is a smartphone,
laptop and an internet connection.
The week will cover:
Twitter: how to get an account, write tweets and connect with what's
happening around the world. You will learn the basics of setting up an account and
be able to research any topic that takes your interest. Connect with long lost
colleagues or chat to your favourite politician or celebrity.
Facebook: how to find support groups, buy and sell, and connect with old
friends without compromising your privacy.
Instagram: what is an 'influencer' and could you be one? Better still,
here's an exciting platform to share your photos and news, whether personal or work
related.
Blogging: if you've ever had the urge to write, here's your chance. Even
without your own blog you can contribute to online platforms like Medium and get
your voice heard.
There will be an opportunity in the week to reflect on how social media
can bring us all together and how to stay safe online. From exchanging views
with others watching the same TV programme to connecting with old friends,
social media has something to offer everyone.
No previous experience is needed. But if you are already dabbling, this
week will improve your skills.
