248 TUTOR: Michael Freke
Enjoy learning the stylish Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Salsa from Cuba, the Samba party dance from Brazil, and the beautiful Bachata from the Dominican Republic! This course is designed to give you a good introduction to the summery rhythms and dance styles of Latin America. Latin music has a great beat and you'll soon find yourself swaying, shimmying or wiggling in time to the music! Complete beginners, couples and solo dancers of any age are very welcome.
Throughout the week we will explore the music and dances of the fun and energetic Latin dance genre. You will become familiar with the basic figures and feeling of each dance style, from the cheeky Cha Cha Cha to the expressive Rumba, the wiggly Salsa, the party Samba and the romantic Bachata.
Each session will start with a gentle warmup, with movements chosen specifically to match those of each dance, followed by a brief history, listening to and understanding the music - and then onto dancing! Emphasis will be placed on poise and improving movement through the body to help you accomplish an authentic style of dancing, while still having lots of fun!
At the end of the week, you will have a brand-new set of skills to show off at a local Tea Dance, Wedding or Special Event! The pace of learning will be tailored to those attending and questions are always welcome!
Please wear shoes with a smooth sole to allow you to turn/swivel - thank you!
