Vintage Dancing: 1920s to 1950s
243 TUTOR: Marie-Louise Flexen
Have fun learning the cheeky Charleston from
the 1920s, experience the elegant dancing of the 1930s, the swinging Lindy Hop
from the 1940s and the classic jive of the 1950s. This course is a perfect
introduction for anyone interested in the vintage scene, dance history or for
anyone who likes to bop along to great music from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Complete beginners, couples and solo dancers of any age are all welcome.
Throughout
the week we will explore the music and dances from the Golden Age of Hollywood!
You will learn how to swivel like a pro for the 1920s Charleston, how to glide
with the elegance of the 1930s, swing and shuffle to the Lindy Hop of the 1940s
and learn how to bop along to the classic jive of the 1950s - with a little bit
of vintage rockabilly and some famous strolls thrown in too!
Each
session will start with a gentle warmup, with movements chosen specifically to
match those of each dance, followed by a brief history, listening to and
understanding the music - and then onto dancing! Emphasis will be placed
on fun and authentic moves from each era so that, if you would like to attend a
vintage event in the future, you will be able to do so with confidence.
At the end
of the week, you will have a brand-new set of skills to show off at a local Tea
Dance, Wedding or Special Event! The pace of learning will be tailored to those
attending and questions are always welcome!
Please
wear shoes with a smooth sole to allow you to turn/swivel - thank you!
