Stanley and Gilbert Spencer: Brothers in Art

178 TUTOR: Jan Cox

Stanley Spencer is a key British artist of the twentieth century; his younger brother Gilbert is not so well-known. This course examines Stanley's most famous works and introduces those of Gilbert, a painter of landscapes, portraits, figure compositions and mural decorations. In 2024 Gilbert will be the subject of a new book by leading expert Paul Gough and a substantial exhibition at Cookham, the home village of the Spencer family.
