305-308 TUTOR: Matt Gow (Marlborough College BA RSA Dip)
Would you like to have fun and meet people from all over the world while improving your English? Marlborough College provides an idyllic, picturesque environment for brushing up your English this summer. A team of experienced and highly qualified English Language teachers will deliver the EFL courses. The General English Programme is perfect for combining with the many exciting activities on offer at Summer School. As well as extending your vocabulary and knowledge of grammar, you will have plenty of opportunities to build your confidence speaking about different topics through communicative activities in a classroom setting. The EFL courses for adults range from Pre-intermediate to Advanced level. Not recommended for complete beginners.
The core aim of the EFL courses is to develop the language skills of learners through communicative activities.
At the beginning of the week, Young People will be asked to complete a short diagnostic test to put them into appropriate level group. Adults will be assessed orally via an interview.
Class sizes are small, allowing for teaching to the needs of individuals. Students who wish to attend one, two, three or four weeks of Summer School will find the lessons completely varied, using a wide selection of teaching materials and methods.
Learners develop skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking through communicative activities and are encouraged to reproduce the language fluently and accurately. Students practise their skills in pairs, teams and groups by discussion, presentation, project work, challenges and games within the classroom. There will also be opportunities to use English outside the classroom in real situations. Vocabulary input reflects the contemporary interests of each age group of students, such as social media, fashion, celebrities, sport and world events.
Classrooms in the Language Centre at Marlborough College Summer School are equipped with the latest technology to facilitate the language learning programme. There are also traditional text books, dictionaries and graded readers for student use.
Our mission on the EFL courses at MCSS is to improve written and spoken skills through fun, communicative classes given by our highly experienced team of specialist English Language teachers.
Matt was educated at Rugby School and studied Politics at Queen Mary College, London University after three years in the US Marines. He is a keen traveller and has two daughters studying at Marlborough College.
