Willow Animal Sculpture

71,72 TUTOR: Linda Rees

This course will guide you through the process of creating a three dimensional willow silhouette frame of your chosen animal followed by the fun, different techniques required to make the finishing features. Each sculpture is a unique celebration in willow of your individual personality and artistic choices. You can opt to make a deer, hare, pig or owl; any of which will give you the confidence to continue to design animals of your own.

Course Notes

Learn about willow and the aspects of growing, harvesting, drying, soaking and usage through the ages. It is after all one of the oldest creative crafts.

All materials will be provided. I will also bring along some accompanying books and information.

About Linda

I have been interested in willow since 1998 and started by learning traditional willow basketry. I found this enjoyable but too creatively restrictive. It was when I was introduced to sculpturing that I found my calling and attended courses (including some with Sue Kirk.)

It was through the Basketmakers Association that I got the confidence to teach and have taught at various events and schools, including Wychwood Forest Fair, Cogges Manor Farm in Witney, Blackthorne Center in Cricklade and Ardington School of Craft near Wantage.
