Day 1
Monday
Introduction
to clay and demonstration of hand building techniques.
This could
include slab work, coiling and pinch pots.
Day 2
Tuesday
Continuing
with hand building projects and finishing work made on day 1.
Day 3 Wednesday
Decorating
and glazing items that were made on days 1 and 2. These will be fired in the
kiln to take home on Friday.
Day 4
Thursday
Throwing
pots on the potter's wheel. ( This is optional - you may wish to continue with
hand building)
Each student
will have their own wheel and plenty of help and advice if needed.
These
items will not dry in time to be fired by the end of the week
Day 5
Friday
The kiln
is unpacked.
There will
be the opportunity to finish off pots made on the potters wheel on day 4 and
further hand building as time allows.
Dexterity
and a keen interest in creating with clay is needed for this course. Students are allowed to be a productive as
they want to be and all finished items may be taken home - fired or unfired.
Items made
on day 4 and 5 can be taken home unfired, or there may be the possibility of
firing the pots to be collected at a later date.
It is
important that you have good use of your hands and fingers.
Throwing
on the potters wheel requires some physical strength.
Short
fingernails are advisable and also to remove jewellery on hands and wrists
apart from wedding rings. Long hair should be tied back.
