Rivers, Lakes and Seascapes: Sketching with Watercolour

Water, water everywhere! Learn how to sketch rivers, lakes and seascapes using the versatile medium of watercolour. During the course you will be shown how to sketch with watercolour and in conjunction with other mediums such as pencil and pen. You will work from photographs and will also be sketching outside in the grounds of the college, weather permitting. No previous experience needed, and all tools and materials will be supplied in a kit form which you will be able to take home with you at the end of the week.

Course Notes

(The following agenda is flexible and includes time for students to practice the exercises)

 

There will be opportunities to sketch outside (weather permitting) so please bring suitable clothing. Sketching stools are available but please feel free to bring a more comfortable folding chair if you have one.

 

Monday

Introduction to course, tools and materials

Sketching a river scene. (from photographs).

 

Tuesday

Sketching a mountain lake including how to use the water soluble pencils.

Wednesday

Sketching a river scene with pen and wash

(from photographs)

 

Thursday

Sketching outside near the college lake (weather permitting)

 

Friday

Sketching seascapes (from photographs)

 

Selection of work for end of course exhibition in The Court

 

4.30pm - Exhibition in Court (not compulsory)
