629 TUTOR: Sunita Auger (CLAS Intermediate Diploma in Calligraphy)
Learn or improve beautiful letterforms and quickly bring them alive with colour. You will be introduced to scripts originating from ancient manuscripts but which have been given a contemporary twist for modern use. You can then choose to create either several short projects or fewer longer ones ranging from artistic envelope addressing and greetings cards, to quotations and bookmarks, concertina books and calligraphic mandala. This course is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

Getting into rhythm and flow
Colour theory for calligraphers
Colour experiments with watercolours/gouache
Start a short project with techniques learned so far
How to develop a larger project

Free choice: finishing projects
We will start with beginner pens and then progress to more sophisticated pens. The transition will depend on each student's choice and progress.
Project examples: bookmark, a quotation, artistic envelope addressing, a greetings card, concertina book, calligraphic mandala
The basic materials and equipment will be brought by the tutor and a few extra items for projects will be available for a small cost.
Please feel free to bring your own favourite calligraphy equipment and supplies.
Please contact the tutor in advance if you are left handed.
Participants should bring:
ˇPencil, ruler, rubber, scissors, notebook
ˇColoured pencils if you have them
ˇOld white plate approx 20cm in diameter for colour mixing
ˇShort quotes you'd like to write out
ˇOptional: Greeting Card blanks, envelopes
ˇReading glasses if you use them
Having spent her working life teaching A level Mathematics, Sunita now enjoys teaching Calligraphy. She is recognised as a Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society accredited tutor.
Sunita loves getting students addicted to calligraphy and enjoys seeing students find satisfaction in creativity. Sunita promotes the creative, mindful and meditative aspect of calligraphy for well-being. Her day workshops in Hampshire and calligraphy retreats with the Creative Arts Retreat Movement have proved to be very popular. Sunita is the teacher for the Winchester Cathedral Scribes Open Workshops and post Covid will be regularly demonstrating in the Cathedral.
