Textiles: Screen Printing a Hand Quilted Throw

53 TUTOR: Nicola Cliffe

The outcome of this course will be your very own beautiful linen throw that has been screen printed with your individual design and hand quilted using Kantha stitching. The tutor will talk about past and present print designers that have inspired her, the history and chemistry of the plant dyes she loves and reveal the simple stencil making techniques for screen printing. You will also have the opportunity to use some of the plant dyes to colour hemp silk for the quilt binding.

  • An introduction to the screen-printing process: setting out the fabric, mark making possibilities and the basic equipment required.
  • A study of the work of post and present print designers.
