Mosaic Magic
55,433 TUTOR: Karen Wones
Are you
inspired by colour and design, but somewhat terrified of art? In this
introductory mosaic course, you will choose an image and learn how to design
and make it into a beautiful piece of art for your home. Various images and
example mosaics will be available to inspire you. The tutor will also provide
all tools and materials, including beautiful glass and ceramic tiles. You will
be amazed at what you can produce. However, be warned, mosaic making can be
addictive!
I don't expect students to bring anything with them -
just be keen to learn and make something lovely!
Day 1 - I will provide mosaics and pictures to inspire
you - but if there is an image you particularly like, you can bring it with you
and we can work on converting it into a mosaic. I will provide all the wood bases, beautiful
glass and ceramic tiles, adhesive and cutting tools.
Day 2 & 3 - continue to work on your project -
learning different shaping and cutting styles.
Day 4 - completion of your first piece of mosaic work in
preparation for grouting (start another smaller mosaic/mosaic decoration if
time allows).
Day 5 - Grouting - is a very satisfying part of the
process. It's not that messy but don't wear your best white outfit! I will
provide aprons.
You will be able to take your mosaic home on the last day.
Just be aware that it will be suitable for indoors only.
Come and have fun but be warned … mosaic is quite
addictive!

About Karen
Karen has been producing stunning mosaics since 2006.
She has been commissioned to mosaic the logos and badges of national
organisations, sports clubs and schools.
Her passion though is the teaching of mosaic art. Her
fun approach sees her students (even those who don't believe they have any
artistic ability) complete beautiful mosaics.
She teaches one-to-one or small groups from her studio
at home in Devon. She also works with colleges and schools to pass on the
skills of mosaic. Many schools now have one of Karen's large mosaics on their
wall - designed with the help of pupils and then produced with the
participation of pupils, teachers and parents. Her college work includes
running courses on a 'health and wellbeing' project - where the relaxing nature
of the art provides a valuable form of therapy.
