Course Notes

Acrylics are a wonderful versatile medium that can be used in a huge variety of ways - watercolour style; thick and luscious like oil paint; layered and combined with other media….and anything in between!

We will begin by exploring colour mixing using a limited number of primary colours - from which we can produce an infinite variety of colours and tones. Learn how to group these into colour families and use them to best effect in your images….you'll never have to buy dozens of tubes of paint again!

We will then experiment with different ways of applying the paint using different techniques and approaches - thick/thin, transparent/opaque. We will also look at different types of brushes and other tools - some traditional, some less so! And learn about various mediums and their uses.

There will be lots of demonstrations followed by time to explore the different processes and develop finished pieces of work. There will be guided projects to follow which the tutor will supply source material for, and a wealth of small exercises designed to expand your skills and banish the fear of the white paper!

This is a friendly and informal workshop suitable for those with no previous experience, or anyone wanting to go back to basics and refresh their skills.

PLEASE NOTE: All inks, & paints used during this workshop are water-based - all cleaning up is done with soap & water - but please bring barrier cream or gloves if you know you have an allergy to any of these materials.
