Paint an Animal Portrait in Watercolour

28 TUTOR: Helen Greene (BA Hons)

This course is perfect for anyone who would like to paint an animal in watercolour and to gain confidence in their own ability. No previous experience in drawing or painting is necessary.

I will demonstrate the staged process of layering in watercolour and paint alongside students, helping with all stages and provide plenty of demonstrations and support. All materials will be provided except clear photographs of your chosen animal which you should bring with you.

Course Notes

Day One

Please bring a few good quality images/photos of your chosen animal. The first day will focus on quick sketches and creating the best composition of your animal to paint. 

Day Two

I will explain different watercolour techniques and we will practise these and also experiment with fine liner pen. 

Day Three

Colour wash and colour mixing. Colour palette and colour theory 

Day Four

Layering colour and using different brushes 

Day Five

Finalising work and critique 

Course Materials

Included in the course watercolour paper and two brushes

Included in the studio artist quality watercolour paper, palettes etc. If you want to bring any of your own paint/ paper or brushes you are welcome to.
