101 TUTOR: Jenny Cowan

Would you like to be able to use seasonal, locally grown flowers to create beautiful arrangements in a more sustainable way? During this course, you will have an opportunity to visit the grounds of Marlborough College and learn how to create designs using techniques that are kinder to the planet. Each arrangement you create will be yours to take home and will be fully adaptable throughout the seasons. Be inspired by locally grown flowers and leave at the end of the course with skills that you can use time and time again.

Course Notes

The course is primarily designed for beginners with an interest in creating arrangements for the home using seasonal, locally grown flowers and foliage, all without the use of oasis or other plastic products.

We will begin the week by exploring the grounds and opening discussion as to what is in season, or available all year. The potential of it's use when arranging, whether that's colour, texture, structure or even scent and how to prepare them to achieve the best vase life possible.

Once back in the classroom we will start with simple jam jar arrangements and as your confidence grows progress through bowl arrangements, flower crowns, wreaths and finally a flower box meadow.

Everything you create will be with locally grown flowers and foliage using techniques that have minimal impact on the environment, and fully adaptable through the seasons.

All flowers and containers will be provided but if you do have a particular bowl/ vase that you would like to use do bring it along.

Just bring an apron (as we can get messy), any gloves if you are prone to skin sensitivity, secatuers if you have them (i will have spares)and an open mind to experiment and have fun with flowers.
