This year, Marlborough College has teamed up with Studio Préniac in South West France to offer our customers two fantastic art courses run by two much loved and regular Summer School tutors. Studio Préniac have been providing fully catered activity holidays for over 10 years offering a range of creative courses designed to develop skills, confidence and expertise.
Set in idyllic surroundings in rural France, with enchanting countryside views, Studio Préniac is a collection of traditional stone buildings in the Quercynoise style, sympathetically converted in to charming and tasteful holiday accommodation, including a large swimming pool and spacious studio workshop.
Each week, there is the chance to visit nearby historic towns and villages with their beautifully preserved medieval architecture and vibrant markets.
As at Summer School, good food is an important part of every holiday and Studio Préniac provide an imaginative and delicious cuisine in a warm and homely environment, freshly prepared in their farmhouse kitchen.
TUTOR: Kevin Scully
From our base at the beautiful Studio Préniac, and in the surrounding countryside and atmospheric villages, we will be producing sketches and paintings 'en plein air' that are full of light and colour in your preferred medium, whether it's watercolours, pastels, oils or acrylics.
If you wish, you will also be given the opportunity to experiment with a medium that you might not have used before.
This course will be suitable for everyone, from beginners to more experienced painters.
As well as plenty of demonstrations, there will be lots of helpful one to one tuition in a friendly, inspirational and fun filled environment where you will be encouraged to develop your own individual style at your own pace.
Adventures with Gouache and Mixed Media: 24th to 30th September 2017
TUTOR Melanie Cambridge
Gouache is a fabulous, yet little used painting medium. It is ideal for both painting outdoors and in the studio as well as combining with pastels and collage for mixed media work. Coming from a background in oils, Melanie loves working with gouache. It is such a flexible medium enabling one to create some beautiful washes as well as areas of impasto which make it easy to create stunning effects, particularly of light and shade.
Demonstrations and structured lessons alongside plenty of one to one tuition throughout the week will help you develop your own painting style.
Taking inspiration from the wonderful French countryside, you will venture outside, both in the wonderful grounds of Studio Préniac and to some of the fabulous local villages and markets.
This will be a week full of inspiring ideas, demonstrations and time to indulge your artistic self far away from daily life. This course is suitable for everyone, from beginners to more experienced painters.
